Tavernier FPL GW9: Bournemouth Assets vs Leeds
Marcus Tavernier is among the most bought players for GW9, with 322,852 transfers in this gameweek, second only to Nicolas Jackson, after he scored in Bournemouth’s 3-0 win at Man Utd on Sunday 25 October. For managers it means a 6.3m midfielder who is already 16.4% owned and rising fast, with the deadline at 11:00 UK time on Saturday 31 October.
Tavernier tapped in an empty net after Adrien Truffert squared the ball, one of three Bournemouth goals, with Rayan and Evanilson scoring the others. It was his fifth league goal of the season. He has 52 points, form of 7.0 and 10 points from GW8, and he’s played 660 minutes, so he’s starting almost every week. Official FPL data shows his price has gone up 0.1 already this gameweek and he’s 0.3m dearer than at the start of the season.

The risk
Bournemouth host Aston Villa in the Carabao Cup fourth round on Wednesday 28 October (7.45pm UK time), before Saturday’s deadline. The real risk is a tired or rested starter against Leeds, and we don’t have team news yet, so check the club’s pre-match press conference before you lock in.
Price is the other factor. With 322,852 managers moving him in, a further rise is possible before Saturday. Owning him at 16.4% also means he’s no longer a differential. If you want to be different, look elsewhere in the squad.
The alternatives
Evanilson is the cheaper way into the same fixtures. The 6.2m forward has 43 points from three goals and four assists, form of 8.3 (higher than Tavernier’s) and only 6.9% ownership, with 100,872 transfers in this gameweek. We’d back him over Tavernier if you’ve got a free forward slot, and we’d happily own both because the fixtures match.
James Hill is the defender to look at. At 5.5m he has 32 points, 11 of them in GW8, and he’s played all 720 minutes. Only 1.1% of managers own him. Truffert, at 5.4m, has 25 points and one assist, and he set up the Tavernier goal at Old Trafford. Rayan (6.3m, 25 points) and goalkeeper Petrovic (4.5m, 22 points) are harder to justify at their prices.
One name to leave out: Alex Scott. The 6.0m midfielder has a thigh injury and is expected back on 8 November, per official FPL data.
